January 1, Indiana Republicans Fumble Power Play Again

Wyatt’s Take

  • Indiana’s GOP-led Senate refused to pass a map that would boost Republicans in Congress.
  • Twenty-one Republican senators joined Democrats to defeat the plan, even with a supermajority.
  • This failure shows why Republican voters must get involved in primaries to demand real change.

Folks in Indiana didn’t just miss out on a t-shirt—they got nothing for voting Republican this time around.

The state Senate, controlled by Republicans, rejected a new congressional map that would’ve given the party even more power. Despite having a sizable majority, more than half the GOP senators sided with Democrats to vote it down.

“The new map would have created two more right-leaning congressional districts in the solidly red Midwestern state, where the GOP controls seven of Indiana’s nine U.S. House seats.”

Meanwhile, blue states like Virginia bend over backward to help their own, even with slim majorities. Red states, on the other hand, seem allergic to using their power for the folks who put them there.

This mess shines a light on something many forget: primaries matter way more than most think. Too many conservative voters keep sending the same weak politicians back or don’t show up for the primaries at all, and the establishment stays in control.

This isn’t just Indiana’s problem. Across the country, Republicans who act more like Democrats face no real pushback, and it needs to stop. If Democrats can run far-left states, red states should be as boldly conservative.

The only fix is for voters to get off the sidelines. It’s not just about voting, but keeping an eye on what gets done after election day and making sure promises are kept.

If conservatives don’t step up as citizens and not just voters, nothing changes.
