Happy Friday America,

Comments from Rep. Ilhan Omar received immense backlash this week, as she appeared to place the US and Israel in the same category as terrorist groups. Omar issued a statement on Thursday clarifying her previous words, and Senior Democrats also issued a group statement denouncing her claims. The statement, lead by Nancy Pelosi, said (in part), “Drawing false equivalencies between democracies like the U.S. and Israel and groups that engage in terrorism like Hamas and the Taliban foments prejudice and undermines progress toward a future of peace and security for all.”

In more uplifting news, eight states have vaccinated more than half of their population, according to CDC data. Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Vermont have all hit this COVID-19 vaccine milestone, with Vermont leading the pack with a whopping 60% fully vaccinated. Overall, 42.5% of the US population are fully vaccinated, and almost 52% have received at least one dose.

Maybe Reddit isn’t the best place for investment advice, after all. The “meme stock” craze seems to have faded a bit on Thursday with AMC Entertainment and GameStop each taking double-digit losses. GameStop said it may sell as many as 5 million shares, which may have had investors running for the door, as additional shares dilute the value of existing stakes.

In further financial news, the US budget deficit hit a record number of $2.1 trillion for the first eight months of this fiscal year. This is up from last year’s $1.9 trillion deficit during the same time period.

El Chapo’s wife, Emma Coronel Aispuro, pleaded guilty to helping him run the notorious Cartel. The former beauty queen pleaded guilty to participating in a conspiracy to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana for importation into the U.S., as well as conspiring to launder narcotics profits, and engaging in illegal financial dealings, according to the Justice Department. Aispuro issued her plea before a federal judge on Thursday.

And finally, a suspected serial killer was apprehended thanks to a Rite Aid clerk’s quick thinking. Keith Gibson, who is linked to at least six murders, was tracked down by officers after the cashier tossed a GPS device inside a bag of money Gibson allegedly grabbed during an armed robbery in Delaware.

Stay safe out there,
