House Hits Snooze Button on DST Bill

A proposal to make daylight saving time permanent passed through the Senate unanimously, and it’s garnered bipartisan support in the House.

News of the bill quickly made the rounds and captured the attention of many Americans. However, House members indicate that it’ll get to it — eventually.

“I think it just caught us all by surprise that the Senate actually produced something and sent it to us. Usually — usually bills go the other way,” said Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-CA).

“We didn’t realize they were acting so quickly and dispositively of it,” said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

“I, myself, support making daylight saving time permanent. I think it’s not going to be much of an issue for us. But we have to socialize it in our caucus, and our Congress, not just the caucus.”

But she said lawmakers have “important work to be doing” amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“I’m really thinking about dying people and I’m thinking about what’s going on in Ukraine. We just had the president here. I don’t give a damn about what people think about it,” said Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA).

Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) urged for expedited action on the legislation, saying, “The funny thing about this place is we have the ability and the capacity to handle multiple issues at one time.”
