January 1, House Democrat Resigns to Take Lobbying Job
Rep. Filemon Vela (D-TX) decided to resign from his position, opting to join a lobbying firm instead.
Vela, who already announced he was not seeking reelection, said he would be resigning from the House of Representatives early.
“The timing now, with just nine months left in the term,” Vela said in an interview with Forbes. “I’m just ready to go.”
According to the outlet, Vela informed the House Committee on Ethics of his future employment, recusing himself from matters pertaining to the firm.
The firm, Akin Gump, also hired Vela’s chief of staff.
