The federal government just took down a massive ring of thieves stealing from our seniors and our taxpayers. Suspects were hauled off in handcuffs for allegedly running a $50 million scam involving fake patients and cash kickbacks.

One California doctor alone was linked to nearly 2,800 patients across 126 different hospices in a single year. These criminals are draining the system while honest folks work hard to pay into it.

Lawmakers are finally waking up to the fact that weak state controls allow these scammers to treat the federal budget like a personal piggy bank. It is about time we started protecting the programs that our elderly neighbors rely on for end-of-life care.
