January 1, Homeland Security Shutdown Stretches as Senate Talks Stay Stalled

Wyatt’s Take

  • The Senate failed to reach the 60-vote threshold to end the 35-day partial government shutdown.
  • Only one Democrat crossed the aisle to support reopening the department during this standoff.
  • Radical demands to overhaul ICE and CBP are the primary roadblocks to a resolution.

The Senate fell short in a 47-37 vote as the shutdown moves into its fifth week.

This marks the second-longest government shutdown in our nation’s history.

While agencies like the Coast Guard and FEMA are stalled, Republicans note that ICE and CBP remain funded thanks to previous legislation.

Democrats are holding the rest of the department hostage to force changes on border enforcement.

Republican Senator John Kennedy noted that the left is terrified of their own base.

He believes they won’t agree to reasonable changes because it would look like they support ICE.

“It is clear to me that because of their politics and the people in charge of their party, the Democrats will never agree to any reasonable changes with respect to ICE.”

The White House has reportedly made serious offers to end the impasse.

Border Czar Tom Homan has joined bipartisan talks to find a path forward.

Senator John Hoeven stated that if Democrats walk away now, they are rejecting common sense.

Long lines at airports are putting more pressure on lawmakers to finally return to the table.

Wyatt Matters

Middle Americans expect their government to prioritize border security and pay the people who keep our skies safe.

It is shameful to see essential services used as bargaining chips for radical policy shifts that most families do not want.

This Congress needs to get off their ass and help workers not getting paid. You should forfeit your own pay. America is fed up with your kindergarten mentality.

They have to stick to the plan now which is to destroy the US. They hate this country and they don’t give a fat rats ass who knows it. Hell they openly support Muslim extremists over American citizens every f**kin day of the week.

It’s becoming more and more apparent Schumer has lost it, does not know if he is coming or going time to step down, over the hill preaching from a distant time era. Open the Government fat cats like you are getting paid while harf working honest American tax payers are not. or all you all in for the New York Communist Party?

I will always support the withholding of Congressional paychecks (House and/or Senate) whenever they play with the wages of other government employees. That said, Schumer stood at the microphone and said that ICE would not be supported without changes but ICE is not part of the issue in this bill. So what gives here?
