A passenger with no flying experience became a hero when they safely landed a small plane after the pilot was unresponsive.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the unnamed passenger took control of the single-engine Cessna 208 after reporting that the pilot had become “incoherent” following a medical emergency.

“I’ve got a serious situation here,” the passenger told an air traffic controller at Fort Pierce tower. “My pilot has gone incoherent. I have no idea how to fly the airplane.”

The air traffic controller successfully talked the passenger through the miracle landing, which took place at the Palm Beach International Airport in Florida about an hour and a half after departing from Marsh Harbour, Bahamas.

“Kudos to that new pilot,” the air traffic controller said after the plane landed safely.

The FAA is investigating the situation.
