January 1, Gov. Ron DeSantis Involved in Traffic Incident on Campaign Trail
Florida Governor and Republican presidential hopeful, Ron DeSantis, was involved in a car accident in Tennessee on Tuesday, a spokesperson confirmed.
The crash happened early in the morning while DeSantis was en route to an event in Chattanooga.
“This morning, the governor was in a car accident while traveling to an event in Chattanooga, Tennessee,” DeSantis’ Press Secretary Bryan Griffin told Fox News.
“He and his team are uninjured.”
The accident involved DeSantis’ four-car motorcade on Interstate 75 South.
A sudden slow-down by the front vehicle in the motorcade caused a pile-up.
A female staffer endured minor injuries and later received treatment, Griffin noted. An investigation is still ongoing.
The incident occurred against a backdrop of some challenging times for the DeSantis campaign.
Top officials of DeSantis’ 2024 presidential campaign have recently admitted to significant spending during the early days of his White House run.
They conveyed this during a meeting with key campaign contributors, stating a campaign “reset” was forthcoming.
“Campaign officials, according to sources familiar with the meeting, acknowledged that money had been spent on unsuccessful operations and that Team DeSantis would run a leaner, ‘insurgent’ type campaign going forward,” Fox News reported.
One top DeSantis donor told the outlet, “Something needs to change and there needs to be a new ignition.”
The campaign reset comes amidst the backdrop of former President Donald Trump’s commanding lead in many polls for the GOP nomination race.
Despite DeSantis raising an impressive $20.1 million during the first six weeks of his campaign, his launch has been characterized as disappointing, with almost half of his funding coming in the first 24 hours of his candidacy.
Bottom Line
This accident may symbolize the recent bumps in DeSantis’ campaign, but it certainly hasn’t derailed his determination.
As his team looks to streamline their campaign strategies, they no doubt appreciate the support and well-wishes from the nation.
As Griffin noted, “We appreciate the prayers and well wishes of the nation for his continued protection while on the campaign trail.”
