Wyatt’s Take

  • Democrats are struggling with in-fighting and no clear leader.
  • Progressive candidates are splitting the party, worrying moderates and opening the door for Republicans.
  • Republicans see Democrat divisions as their chance to win big in upcoming Senate races.

Senator Tim Scott says the Democratic Party is in “shambles” as they face deep divisions ahead of the next Senate elections. With no strong leader and infighting between progressives and moderates, Democrats are struggling to hold their ground.

Candidates like Jasmine Crockett are causing concern for moderate Democrats, while Republicans are celebrating her Senate bid in Texas. Senator John Cornyn says he’s glad a progressive like Crockett is running, claiming she can’t win in Texas.

Strategists warn that putting far-left candidates up front could turn off voters in swing states. “Any Democrat who can do math should be worried,” said Democrat strategist Liam Kerr, who thinks the party risks alienating mainstream voters.

Crockett has grabbed headlines for controversial remarks, bringing more national attention but also adding to Democrat challenges. “When you explicitly say we don’t need Trump voters to win, you’re not only denying mass, you’re denying an opportunity for voters to consider Democrats for other races and in the future,” Kerr added.

According to Republicans, the rise of progressives paints Democrats as “elite, out-of-touch, and extreme”—a label that worries even some within the party. Scott believes this confusion will help Republicans “keep the majority, expand the majority all across the map.” He says socialism is taking over the party, and predicts tough times ahead for Democrats hoping to bounce back.

Meanwhile, Democrats claim they are on the “offense” after recent wins in some governor races, but leaders like Scott dismiss those victories as exceptions. He pointed to Michigan, where internal fights among Democrats could hand the race to Republicans.

Cornyn argues the left wing has taken control and establishment figures like Chuck Schumer are losing influence. He points to successful socialist campaigns as proof the party has shifted far from its old base. Cornyn and strategists agree that political parties have lost power, letting outside money and activists pick radical candidates that might be unelectable in the general vote.

Kerr remarked that party structures are getting weaker every year, shifting more power to individuals and outside groups.
