Republican Representative Ralph Norman is defending the massive costs of military action in Iran despite his usual stance on fiscal responsibility.

He argues that national security must come before concerns about the country’s rising debt.

The South Carolina lawmaker believes preventing attacks on the United States justifies the high price tag of the conflict.

He insists that military operations cannot be treated the same as domestic spending programs.

“I’m concerned about the debt at every level, not just the war,” Norman said.

“Well, you want the… Iran’s… What they said they were going to do is blow us up. Do we want to get blown up? No, we don’t,” he continued.

“And we’ll have to do whatever… We’ll pay the debt back.”

“The war is OK to spend on?” the reporter asked further.

“Yeah. With this, with the… It’s the number one sponsor of terror,” Norman answered.

The first week of operations alone cost taxpayers roughly $11.3 billion for missile strikes and force deployments.

These expenses come at a time when the national debt continues to hit record highs every month.

Norman has previously warned that deficit spending threatens the economic future of our children and grandchildren.

Now, he maintains that stopping the world’s leading sponsor of terror is the number one priority for Congress.

Wyatt Matters

Middle Americans understand that a strong defense is vital, but they also know that a bankrupt nation cannot remain a superpower for long. Our leaders must find a way to secure the country without burying the next generation under a mountain of unreachable debt.
