January 1, Gang Horror Shakes Ecuador’s Coastline
Wyatt’s Take
- Five severed heads found on Ecuador beach as cartel violence explodes.
- Government declares emergency, sends military to fight gangs.
- Coastal families fear traffickers and demand real security.
Five human heads were discovered hanging from ropes on a tourist beach in Puerto Lopez, Ecuador, a chilling sign of surging cartel violence in the country. The gruesome display is connected to gang battles over territory and drug routes along the coast.
Police said the heads were attached to wooden poles and left with a threatening sign targeting criminals demanding “vaccine card” extortion money from local fishermen.
“We have identified those trying to extort,” the message warned.
Authorities believe the scene was meant as a warning by criminal groups locked in turf wars.
The government has declared a state of emergency in several provinces, including Manabi, sending in the military to support local police.
Despite these efforts, violence continues to rise, with the province suffering recent massacres and Ecuador facing the highest murder rates in its history.
Drug cartels use fishermen and their boats for moving illegal cargo, endangering coastal communities and their livelihoods.
Families worry about safety as gangs expand and the government struggles to restore order.
