Former White House Aide Gives Explosive Testimony
ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY…
1860: Famous debate on Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution held at the Oxford University Museum and dominated by arguments between Thomas Henry Huxley and Bishop Samuel Wilberforce.
A former White House aide gave an explosive testimony wherein she claimed then-President Donald Trump lunged at his security detail and tried to grab the steering wheel of the presidential vehicle after he was told he couldn’t join his supporters at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
Cassidy Hutchinson, who served as an aide to former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, told the House Jan. 6 panel that Secret Service agent Bobby Engel told Trump that they weren’t going to the Capitol because it wasn’t secure, “the president had a very strong and very angry response to that.”
Hutchinson said the then-deputy chief of staff Tony Ornato described Trump “as being irate. The president said something to the effect of, ‘I’m the f—— president, take me up to the Capitol now.'”
“[Engel] said, ‘Sir, we have to go back to the West Wing,’” Hutchinson continued. “The president reached up towards the front of the vehicle to grab at the steering wheel. Mr. Engel grabbed his arm and said, ‘Sir, you need to take your hand off the steering wheel. We’re going back to the West Wing. We’re not going to the Capitol.’”
“Trump then used his free hand to lunge at Bobby Engel,” Hutchinson said.
However, Trump denied Hutchinson’s allegation in a statement.
“Her Fake story that I tried to grab the steering wheel of the White House Limousine in order to steer it to the Capitol Building is ‘sick’ and fraudulent, very much like the Unselect Committee itself – Wouldn’t even have been possible to do such a ridiculous thing,” Trump said.
