January 1, Florida A&M Football Program Suspended After Unauthorized Rap Video Filmed in Locker Room

Published

The Florida A&M University football program found itself in hot water last Friday night after the unauthorized filming of a rap video in the team’s locker room led to the suspension of all football-related activities.

The video, featuring explicit lyrics and unauthorized use of team apparel, came as a shock to the administration and has raised legal concerns.

The rapper, known as Real Boston Richey, is seen in the video wearing a Florida A&M shirt and team helmets.

Several Florida A&M players also appear in the footage.

The unauthorized use of licensed apparel could potentially violate university branding and licensing agreements, adding legal complexity to the situation.

Coach Willie Simmons released a statement expressing his disappointment and concern.

“Earlier today, it was brought to my attention that a rap video was shot by a prominent rapper in the football locker room of Galimore-Powell Fieldhouse without proper authorization,” Simmons said.

“The video contained graphic language that is not consistent with Florida A&M’s core values, principles, and beliefs.”

Simmons acknowledged the gravity of the situation, stating that the football team, as ambassadors of Florida A&M University, have a responsibility to protect the university’s image.

As such, he has chosen to suspend all football-related activities until further notice, citing the incident as a failure of the young men to live up to the standards set before them.

Richey is a Tallahassee native and has performed at the team’s homecoming last season. However, it’s unclear how he gained access to the team’s locker room to film the video.

Simmons has been in contact with the first-year Athletic Director, Tiffani Dawn Skyes, about the incident.

“It’s FAMU, it’s our brand, it’s our facility,” Simmons said.

“Kids are going to be kids, but I am also trying to help them understand to be super mindful of your involvement and decisions. We will make a determination to address those (involved) individually or the entire team.”

Bottom Line

The incident adds to a growing list of troubles for the Florida A&M football program under Simmons, who became head coach in 2018.

Last year, eligibility issues sidelined 20 players for the opener against North Carolina.

Florida A&M is slated to open the season against Jackson State on Sept. 3.

It remains to be seen how this latest setback will impact their preparations.

Had to turn it off about a minute in due to the vulgarity. And people say Jason Alden’s “Try That in a Small Town” is offensive. Such hypocrites!

“RIGHT” on, it’s very obvious that the treacherous Left is instigating a racial war; I predicted this would happen when the black Muslim-Marxist jihadist and NWO-implant Soetoro was chosen! It all started with, I say orchestrated arrest of the black professor going through the window of his residence! Now, you’d think we were Africa as most faces on the fascist TV stations are black! You’d think that we were living in Africa! “AMERIKA” had better get it’s head out of it’s A$$!

All communist regimes, and this one is no different, destroy the history, culture, religion in order to complete their task! All of these wanna-be gangters and thugs should be thrown out of that school but I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if they somehow make some money out of this disgusting $HIT! Let’s see if the fascist news has the same stance against these low lives as it it took against the good ole white country boy – we already know that answer! WTFU!

I applaud your decision!! Young people need to learn respect and boundaries.
I’m very sorry for any who might have to pay for NOT being involved. Scholarships should certainly be addressed for the members who participated!!

I am in full agreement with all the action taken by this athletic department. Every step that can be taken to restore civility and morality to all areas of this country is a step forward.

However, as an 87-year-old white woman who has lived through various stages of change, I strongly object to the statement from Born Again. I am truly Born Again and I don’t condone the divisiveness that comes from calling these people “apes” and expecting nothing better.

I’m pretty sure if BLM come to that college town and starts burning down businesses, everything would be forgiven, right? After all BLM has all the democrats and RINO party supporting them! And I forgot to mention the FBI and DOJ are 100% in support also!

Completely inexcusable! EVERY player in that locker room should be expelled. Ungodly trash! So that is what Florida A&M looks like.
