1933: 1st modern sit-down strike by Hormel meat packers in Austin, Minnesota.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested two illegal immigrants from Venezuela for assaulting a United States Border Patrol (USBP) agent in El Paso, Texas, the bureau said in a press release.

Shortly before 7 a.m. on Oct. 31, a USBP agent received word that a group of “undocumented non-citizens” was crossing the U.S. border, the FBI said. The agent followed the group into a residential area, where they “dispersed and ran.” The agent caught up to two members of the group, who refused to comply with his commands.

The two individuals, identified as 35-year-old Kevin Escalona Gonzalez and 27-year-old Yuleixy Mata Fuentes, resisted arrest and “an altercation ensued,” officials said.

During the altercation, the agent was “pushed, dragged, and punched by the individuals,” the FBI said.

The bureau said the agent was able to gain control of them without further incident.

Gonzalez and Fuentes are currently being held at the El Paso County Correctional Facility after having their initial appearance before a U.S. Magistrate Judge on Nov. 1.

“The men and women of the U.S. Border Patrol work tirelessly to keep our borders safe,” said FBI El Paso Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey R. Downey. “Assaults on Border Patrol agents or any other federal agents/officers or task force officers will not be tolerated and will be addressed swiftly by our office so they can continue to carry out their sworn duty to protect our communities.”
