January 1, FDA Pulls COVID Vaccine Mandate Leverage
Wyatt’s Take
- The government has dropped emergency use authorizations for COVID-19 vaccines.
- Vaccines will stay available, but only for those who want them and after doctor consultation.
- The move marks a big step away from pandemic-era government mandates.
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. shared that the Food and Drug Administration no longer supports emergency use rules for COVID-19 shots.
“The emergency use authorizations for Covid vaccines, once used to justify broad mandates on the general public during the Biden administration, are now rescinded,” Kennedy said.
Kennedy stressed he aimed to end vaccine mandates, let people choose vaccines if they want, demand better safety testing, and end the ongoing state of emergency.
He added, “FDA has now issued marketing authorization for those at higher risk: Moderna (6+ months), Pfizer (5+), and Novavax (12+). These vaccines are available for all patients who choose them after consulting with their doctors.”
Kennedy also thanked FDA Director Marty Makary for guiding these changes.
