Fauci Says Fox News Host ‘Should Be Fired On the Spot’

Dr. Anthony Fauci says a prominent Fox News host should be fired following comments he made at a conservative conference encouraging attendees to ambush-interview the infectious disease expert with “kill shot” questions.

“Now you go in for the kill shot. The kill shot? With an ambush? Deadly. Because he doesn’t see it coming,” said Jesse Watters, a longtime Fox News personality and current co-host of The Five.

Watters’ comments came during the right-wing Turning Points USA conference where he provided students with a playbook on how to capture viral moments that Fox News and similar outlets would air.

“This is where you say Dr. Fauci you funded risky research at a sloppy Chinese lab. The same lab that sprung this pandemic on the world. You know what people don’t trust you, don’t you?” said Jesse Watters, a longtime Fox News personality and current co-host of The Five.

“Boom. He is dead! His dead. He’s done. You do that 30 seconds, it’s all you need.”

Social media critics panned Watters’ remarks, arguing they were incendiary and promoted violence.

During an appearance on CNN’s New Day, Fauci called Watters’ words “horrible.”

“That just is such a reflection of the craziness that goes on in society,” Fauci said. “And he’s gonna go, very likely, unaccountable … I mean whatever network he’s on is not going to do anything. I mean that’s crazy, the guy should be fired on the spot.”

Fox News put out a statement, saying Watters’ words were “twisted completely out of context.”

“Based on watching the full clip and reading the entire transcript, it’s more than clear that Jesse Watters was using a metaphor for asking hard-hitting questions to Dr. Fauci about gain-of-function research,” the network said.
