Greetings and salutations Americans,

On Tuesday, Pennsylvania authorities filed an arrest warrant in a 2013 campus attack at Gettysburg College. Police are pursuing 28-year-old California resident Ian Cleary for sexually assaulting 18-year-old Shannon Keeler after following her home from a party. Though Keeler went to police hours after the incident, she was told it was hard to prosecute cases when the victim had been drinking. Police reopened the case last year when Keeler disclosed a series of Facebook messages from Cleary– including one that read, “So I raped you.” Police were able to link the Facebook account to Cleary by a matching cell phone number, but he has not yet been located by authorities.

A Louisiana couple was in disbelief earlier this month upon discovering $50 billion had been accidentally deposited into their shared bank account. “I’m like, ‘Where did that come from?’” said Darren James, 47. “And all we were thinking was who’s going to be knocking on our door … because we don’t know anybody with that type of money, to begin with.” The family immediately contacted Chase Bank, which corrected the error four days later.

The board president of Champlain Towers South, which partially collapsed last week in Surfside, Florida, sent a letter to neighbors on April 9, which described the decay of the building. “The concrete deterioration is accelerating. The roof situation got much worse, so extensive roof repairs had to be incorporated,” the letter reads. “Based on our investigation, there were many warnings signs more than 10 years ago — maybe even longer,” said attorney Adam Schwartzbaum.

A first-round injury led tennis legend Serena Williams to withdraw from Wimbledon on Tuesday. Williams apparently lost her footing while hitting a forehand during the fifth game against Aliaksandra Sasnovich, and left the court in tears. “Of course I’m so sad for Serena; she’s a great champion,” Sasnovich said. “It happens sometimes in tennis, but all the best for her and her recovery.”

The delta variant of covid-19 is causing some new guidelines in California. Health officials in Los Angeles county now strongly recommend that people wear masks in public indoor places, regardless of their vaccination status, in order to prevent the spread of the highly transmissible variant. “Until we better understand how and to who the Delta variant is spreading, everyone should focus on maximum protection with minimum interruption to routine as all businesses operate without other restrictions, like physical distancing and capacity limits,” the LA county health department said.

Want a billionaire to be your internet service provider? You may soon have the opportunity, according to Elon Musk. Musk said on Tuesday that SpaceX’s satellite internet network Starlink recently passed 70,000 active users, and they anticipate many more. “We are on our way to having a few hundred thousand users, possibly over 500,000 users within 12 months,” Musk said. Starlink is now the world’s largest satellite constellation, with more than 1,500 satellites launched to date.

Be well,

Fraser Dixon
