January 1, European Official UNLOADS on Americans Over Air Conditioning

Wyatt’s Take
- Paris deputy mayor scolds Americans for using AC while Europeans swelter through World Cup heat without it
- French official claims Americans bear ‘significant responsibility’ for global warming while her own citizens suffer in the heat
- Classic European hypocrisy — they want our innovation and comfort but lecture us about climate when they can’t keep up
A high-ranking European politician went after Americans this week, attacking our use of air conditioning after her own countrymen got a taste of American comfort during World Cup visits. Paris Deputy Mayor Audrey Pulvar launched into a climate lecture aimed squarely at “American journalists” and “influencers” who dared point out France’s lack of basic cooling systems.
Pulvar, a journalist herself, took to Instagram Friday with a message that Americans “bear a significant responsibility” for the “consequences” of global warming. The outburst came just days after the French capital hosted World Cup events where European visitors experienced the stark difference between American and European living standards.
The deputy mayor’s complaint boils down to jealousy dressed up as environmental righteousness. Americans visiting France have long noticed the absence of air conditioning in hotels, restaurants, and even government buildings. Now that Europeans are seeing how the other half lives, they’re pointing fingers instead of upgrading their own infrastructure.
France and much of Europe have resisted widespread AC adoption for decades, citing environmental concerns while their citizens bake through increasingly hot summers. Meanwhile, American innovation has made climate-controlled comfort accessible to working families across the heartland. That’s called progress, not exploitation.
The timing of Pulvar’s lecture is particularly rich. Europeans flood into America for major sporting events, enjoy our modern amenities, then return home to scold us for having them. It’s the same old story — they want American technology, American entertainment, and American comfort, but they’ll never miss a chance to talk down to us.
This isn’t about climate science. It’s about European elites uncomfortable with the fact that average Americans live better than they do. Air conditioning isn’t a luxury anymore — it’s a basic quality of life improvement that saves lives during heat waves and makes modern civilization possible in hot climates.
American ingenuity gave the world air conditioning, just like we gave them the internet, modern aviation, and countless other innovations that Europeans now take for granted while criticizing our way of life. The difference is we don’t apologize for making life better for our people.
Wyatt Matters
When foreign politicians lecture hardworking Americans about their air conditioning, it shows how disconnected elites are from basic human comfort. Our families earned the right to cool homes and safe working conditions through innovation and prosperity. We won’t apologize for that to anyone, especially not Europeans who can’t figure out how to keep their own cities livable in the summer.
