January 1, Elite Soldiers Deserve Nationwide Concealed Carry Rights

Wyatt’s Take

  • Rep. Pat Harrigan is pushing to give active-duty and retired special operators the same concealed carry protections as retired police officers.
  • The Special Operations Forces Concealed Carry Act would let qualified elite military personnel carry nationwide, even as state laws vary.
  • The proposal builds on existing federal law and aims to recognize the training and service these warriors have already earned.

Representative Harrigan, who served as a Green Beret, noted the current double standard in federal law.

“Federal law already trusts retired police officers to carry concealed nationwide,” Harrigan said.

“That makes sense. But it makes no sense that a retired SEAL or Green Beret has no equivalent recognition under federal law.”

The legislation ensures that these highly trained individuals do not have to worry about annual firearms requalification to maintain their eligibility.

It builds on the framework established in 2004 that granted similar rights to law enforcement officers.

“This bill fixes that,” Harrigan stated.

“It does not create new rights or weaken any safeguard. It simply extends an existing, proven framework to the warriors who have earned it more than anyone.”

Our veterans have spent decades protecting our freedoms abroad. They deserve the right to protect themselves and their families here at home without being hassled by red tape.
