January 1, DNC Shake-Up: Controversy Surrounds David Hogg’s Position

David Hogg, the young guy we all know for talking a lot about guns and schools, just lost his job with the Democratic National Committee (DNC). Folks at the DNC decided they need to vote again and maybe find someone else for the vice-chair position he had.

DNC members voted 294-99 to hold another election for the spot that Hogg held. They’re going to do these votes over the weekend and at the start of next week. Hogg and the other guy who lost the spot, Malcolm Kenyatta, can try to win these spots again if they want.

Earlier this year, Hogg said he would spend a whopping $20 million to challenge Democrats in the House he thinks aren’t doing their jobs right. The head of the DNC, Ken Martin, wasn’t happy about this. He told Hogg he couldn’t take part in picking sides while being a leader at the DNC because his job is to stay neutral. Can’t be a player and a referee at the same time, right?

Another person, Kalyn Free from Oklahoma, said the DNC didn’t follow its own rules when it got Hogg elected. So, the DNC decided to have a do-over with these votes.

Hogg said he still wants to change the Democratic Party and thinks that’s why they voted the way they did. He’s not a fan of how things are going and wants to shake things up. But it looks like the DNC wants to move forward without him for now.

Hogg got famous when he started talking against guns after the Parkland school shooting in 2018. He’s known for saying some pretty wild things.
