January 1, Democrats Raise Funds Over Trump Maduro Arrest

• Democrats used the arrest of Venezuela’s dictator Maduro to spark fundraising.
• They accused Trump of ignoring the Constitution and acting without Congress.
• Maduro was wanted for drug crimes aimed at harming Americans.

The DNC fired off a fundraising email after President Trump ordered the arrest of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro and his wife. They accused Trump of starting an “unconstitutional war” and said Republicans were hiding while he attacked Venezuela.

“Another day, another unconstitutional war from Trump, who thinks the Constitution is a suggestion,” the DNC email read.

The Democrats argued that the way to fight back was to elect more of their own to limit Trump’s power. This came on the same morning Trump moved to capture Maduro for a pile of crimes, like drug trafficking and conspiracy to smuggle cocaine into the US.

DNC Chairman Ken Martin spoke out as well. He called the arrest illegal and accused Trump of betraying the country. Martin claimed, “He committed the United States to an uncertain rile in South America with an indeterminate timeline. As Trump’s influence over the country and the world wanes, he is ready and willing to endanger Americans and abandon the Constitution as a last-ditch effort to hold on to power and relevancy.”

Maduro was notorious for rigging elections and keeping himself in power. US authorities had a $50 million reward out for tips leading to his capture. US courts had already named him a top player in a huge cartel moving cocaine into the US to hurt our communities.
