Rep. Ayanna Pressley says the Trump administration is being

“cruel”

by pushing able-bodied folks on SNAP to work for their food aid.

The shutdown started over a month ago because Congress couldn’t agree on a funding plan.

Democrats say the fight could raise health insurance costs, while Republicans argue their plan would give benefits to illegal immigrants.

The Trump administration just set aside emergency money for SNAP, following a court order.

This move shows the heated debate over who gets government aid, with officials saying illegal immigrants are abusing the program.

MSNBC hit the administration hard for pushing work requirements during the shutdown.

“I guess one way to keep people from fraudulently claiming benefits is by making sure no one can claim benefits, no?”

“First and foremost, this is the most corrupt administration in history,” Pressley shot back.

“And then they’re cruel enough to create work requirements for hungry people to get SNAP.”

House Republicans have backed tougher work rules and major cuts for food programs.

They’ve shifted more costs onto states and tied it all to President Trump’s priorities.

Trump blames Democrats for the shutdown.

“But for the last month, they have not shown up for work, and they’ve been on a taxpayer-funded vacation. You know, I’ve been in Congress seven years.”

“I came in as a freshman… in the midst of a government shutdown… And we never left.”

“We stayed working. We stayed negotiating because that’s what the American people deserve.”

“It’s just shameful.”

Congress remains divided, and families caught in the middle are left to worry about food on the table.

We’ll keep tracking this heated fight for Middle America.
