  • British activists vandalized the Crown Jewels to push for taxing the rich.
  • Four were arrested after throwing apple crumble and custard at the display.
  • The group claims wealth inequality is breaking Britain.

Protesters in the UK targeted the famous Crown Jewels display at the Tower of London, using dessert as their weapon. Two activists, part of a group called Take Back Power, tossed apple crumble and custard against the glass case to demand higher taxes for the wealthy.

The incident happened on Saturday morning, forcing a quick shutdown of the exhibit. Police arrested four people involved and launched an investigation. The activists wore shirts with their group name and displayed a banner: “Democracy has crumbled. Tax the rich.”

Take Back Power called the act a demand for a citizen-led assembly to shape tax laws, blaming politicians for serving the “super-rich.” Miriam Cranch, one of the protesters, said, “Britain is broken because the super-rich are pocketing billions, whilst working people struggle to get by.” Zahra Ali added, “Our country is crumbling before our eyes!… It’s time the ultra rich pay their fair share.”

UK authorities strongly criticized the vandalism, stating that such acts cross the line between protest and criminal behavior. The Take Back Power group insists they represent the 99% and want ordinary citizens to decide how taxes are set through legally-binding assemblies.

Cranch argued, “Billionaires should not pay a lower tax rate on wealth they generate doing nothing, than those of us working jobs. It’s time ordinary people get a say on how to tax wealth with a permanent House of the People.” The activists point to growing poverty and unused homes as reasons for bigger changes.

Wyatt Matters

Hardworking families shouldn’t have to watch their nation’s history under attack by activists. Many folks are fed up with the rich getting loopholes, but destroying what belongs to everyone crosses a line. Real change should come from honest discussion and respect for the people who keep this country running strong.

From all indications democracy there has crumbled. Does not make their disrespect OK though.

“keep this country running strong” Which country are you referring to? The U.K? Surely you jest.
