The Justice Department is looking into Colombian President Gustavo Petro for long-standing ties to drug traffickers and bribery schemes.

Reports suggest his campaign may have accepted illicit funds from the same cartels that poison American streets.

Federal records show Petro’s name surfaced repeatedly in investigations into the Colombian drug trade.

Some investigators believe his representatives asked for bribes from criminals trying to avoid American prisons.

“Petro’s name came up and became a subject,” a DOJ spokesperson stated regarding the probe into drug trafficking.

The spokesperson noted the investigation is ongoing but separates Petro from the aggressive tactics used against the Venezuelan regime.

Analysts believe the military is too focused on the Middle East to carry out a high-stakes arrest in Bogota.

“Castro birthed a monstrous ideological mission to usurp the normal state of affairs in the entire region,” analyst Brandon Weichert said.

He explained that Petro was a key part of an ideological plan that relies on the support of drug trafficking.

Petro has denied the claims, stating he has never spoken with a drug dealer in his life.

The Colombian Embassy says the reports have no legal basis and that no formal charges have been filed.

Petro is limited by law to one term and is expected to leave office in August 2026.

Trump and Petro have traded insults in the past, with Trump recently warning the Colombian leader to watch his step.

Despite a brief polite meeting in the Oval Office, the tension remains high as the DEA continues its work.
