January 1, Clarence Thomas Hospitalized
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas missed Monday court proceedings due to illness.
“Justice Thomas is unable to be present today but will participate in consideration and decision of the cases on the basis of the briefs and the transcripts of oral argument,” Chief Justice John Roberts said.
Over the weekend, the 73-year-old was admitted to Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C., and diagnosed with an infection.
A Supreme Court spokesperson said Thomas was receiving intravenous antibiotics.
“His symptoms are abating, he is resting comfortably, and he expects to be released from the hospital in a day or two,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
