Wyatt’s Take

  • Chris Matthews says Democrats are losing voters by ignoring everyday issues.
  • He blames open borders and extreme social policies for party backlash.
  • Matthews and others urge Democrats to focus on the economy, not distractions.

Former MSNBC host Chris Matthews said Democrats should stop attacking Trump immigration policies and defending transgender athletes in women’s sports, and instead listen to what working folks care about. He pointed out that many Americans see the border as wide open and that the surge hurt Democrats badly.

“The polling will tell you, the open border – what seemed like an open border for four years,” Matthews said.

He noted that since the border has been closed, few Hispanic leaders have spoken out, showing party leaders know how damaging the border issue was. Matthews also called out how repeated ads about Biden’s transgender sports policies hurt the Democrats. He reminded his fellow party members that these are losing issues with the public.

In one of those ads, a narrator said, “Kamala is for they/them, President Trump is for you.” Matthews criticized Democrats for focusing on divisive topics instead of kitchen-table issues.

“They’ve got to pick three hard economic issues: interest rates, inflation, tariffs. And they got to say that’s what we’re running on. Not all this other crap,” Matthews warned.

He stressed that affordability is what most people care about, and that is what will win elections. Matthews’ view was supported by Joe Scarborough, who urged Democrats to admit there have been real problems with the border and transgender sports policies. Scarborough agreed that most Americans don’t want men competing in women’s sports and that the party needs to show fairness and compassion.

Scarborough pushed for the party to talk about making life affordable again. Matthews also took aim at Democrats defending rising crime rates, saying it is a bad look to downplay violence.

“You can’t keep saying violent crime is down with the murder rates up. To the average person, the murders are about life and death. You don’t brag about a rising murder rate,” Matthews said.

These media voices make it clear: The Democratic Party isn’t connecting with regular people on the economy, safety, or common sense. Ignoring these truths won’t fix their problems.

Our country needs leaders willing to fight for working Americans, not pet causes and party insiders.
