January 1, Charlotte Stabbing Sparks Crime and Border Outrage
Wyatt’s Take
- Illegal immigration tied to violent crime hits Charlotte hard.
- Light rail safety and border enforcement under fire again.
- State policy shifts bring renewed hope and criticism.
Charlotte swore in a new police chief Friday, but the city faced more violence by night. A stabbing on the Blue Line reignited concerns over light rail security and immigration enforcement.
Authorities said Oscar Solarzano, an illegal immigrant previously deported, was charged with first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon. The victim was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
Estella Patterson was sworn in that morning to lead the police. The city is recovering from over 400 arrests during a recent crackdown on illegal immigration and dealing with another fatal light rail stabbing only months ago.
That earlier attack led lawmakers to pass Iryna’s Law, ending cashless bail for some crimes and bringing back the death penalty. Residents are demanding tighter law enforcement in the face of repeat offenders and rising crime.
U.S. Customs and Border Patrol began new operations this month targeting those with violent criminal records. The list of crimes includes aggravated assault and assault on police officers.
Despite Democrat leaders in the city continuing to defend illegal immigrants, some Republican lawmakers have called for extreme action like deploying the National Guard. So far, those requests have been denied.
As crime rises and the border remains open, folks in Charlotte are left demanding real answers and action.

“Oscar Solarzano, an illegal immigrant previously deported, was charged with first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon. The victim was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.”
Considering “The victim was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.” maybe the first degree murder charge is a bit premature.
