Violence has swept Mexico after the killing of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, also called El Mencho, leader of the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion. Military action took him down in Jalisco, triggering a fierce response from the cartel.

Across Puerto Vallarta and other cities, thick black smoke can be seen as cartel members set buses and buildings on fire.

Attacks and narco blockades are happening now in Jalisco, Michoacán, and other states. Chaos has spread so far that even well-known stores like Costco in Puerto Vallarta have gone up in flames.

Airports are closing down, and travelers are trapped as gunmen storm these locations. Flights into Puerto Vallarta have been suspended while shootouts and fires rage.

Americans in Jalisco, Tamaulipas, and surrounding cities have been ordered to shelter in place. The U.S. government warns citizens to avoid the streets for their own safety.

“U.S. citizens in the following locations should shelter in place until further notice: Jalisco State (including Puerto Vallarta, Chapala, and Guadalajara), Tamaulipas State (including…).”

Messages from the cartel threaten open violence against anyone who does not stay indoors. Gunmen have stormed airports, clashed with Mexican authorities, and set up roadblocks across several states.

The CJNG’s attacks come as payback for losing their leader. Reports say the United States gave intelligence support to help Mexico with the operation, confirming a Pentagon task force aided the raid.
