Wyatt’s Take

  • Bruce Willis now lives in a separate home due to dementia.
  • His wife Emma made the tough call to help their young daughters adjust.
  • Emma says this gives the family a chance to prepare for what lies ahead.

Bruce Willis’ wife, Emma Heming Willis, revealed their daughters are being prepared for his eventual passing by moving him into a different residence. Emma shared details of her painful decision, saying the separation gives her girls, Mabel and Evelyn, necessary space as they face their father’s ongoing battle with frontotemporal dementia.

“Giving and allowing the girls some space from Bruce also helps prepare them for his death.”

Emma explained she’s doing everything to protect her kids as reality sets in. She took on his care after his diagnosis was announced last year but says he now needs more professional help than she can provide at home.

Emma first said in August that Bruce would move out to receive expert care. She noted there’s no exact timetable for the progression of his condition, though life expectancy after symptoms show up typically ranges from seven to thirteen years.

“This disease of FTD is horrendous, but it gives you a little grace to be able to plan and organize your affairs,” she wrote.

Emma said that getting her children used to a new normal will help lessen the shock when the time comes. She added, “Until there is a cure, this disease will always win.”

Everyday families facing tough health battles can relate to Emma’s struggle to do what’s right for her loved ones. It takes grit and sacrifice to make these hard choices.
