Wyatt’s Take

  • Boston Mayor Michelle Wu says everyone has a right to come to America.
  • Lawmakers and Americans are fired up over her claim.
  • Cities like Boston are losing the middle class as leaders focus on migrants.

Boston’s Democrat Mayor Michelle Wu went viral after declaring on camera that everyone on earth has a legal right to come to the United States and seek shelter.

Her comments, made in March, are drawing anger from thousands of Americans.

“Every single human being has the legal right to come to the United States and seek shelter.”

Federal law says immigrants must follow a legal process, filing for visas or asylum before entering the country.

Republican Rep. Brandon Gill of Texas responded, “Dems demand infinity immigration, then infinity welfare — all at Americans’ expense.”

Utah Sen. Mike Lee added, “Nope … That’s not how any of this works … Never has been… Never will be… Bad things happen when we pretend otherwise.”

Lee also argued, “The quiet part out loud: The entire world has more right to America than Americans.”

Michelle Wu faced controversy last year for sponsoring a city hall Christmas party invitation for “electeds of color” only. She later apologized for the decision.

As some mayors focus on migrants instead of city reforms, more middle-class families are leaving cities like Boston.
