Genealogist Alexander Bannerman said records show some of President Joe Biden’s paternal ancestors owned slaves.

Bannerman, along with presidential lineage expert Gary Boyd Roberts, co-wrote an article for the 2021 issue of the New England Historic Genealogical Society’s American Ancestors Magazine.

Bannerman told Politico that the 1800 census showed that Biden’s great-great-great-grandfather, Jesse Robinett, owned two enslaved people in Allegany County, and another great-great-great-grandfather, Thomas Randle, enslaved a 14-year-old boy in Baltimore County.

The researcher also said that census records show Randle and his family moved elsewhere in Baltimore County in 1860, at which point they owned a single male slave.
