This Day in History  |  1934

Notorious criminals Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow are shot to death by Texas and Louisiana state police while driving a stolen car near Sailes, Louisiana.

Good morning MIddle Americans,

Will African Americans voters just forgive and forget Joe Biden’s ‘you ain’t black comment’? It appears that way. DJ Charlamagne the God is defending Biden this morning. It’s still a jaw dropping moment from the campaign. The reason why so many Democrats are willing to put up with Biden is because of the current president. They just can’t stand the fact that Donald Trump is president.

But he might not be the president in 2021, if things continue on their current trajectory. There’s real concern inside the Trump campaign about their polling numbers in Americas battleground states.

Also, not that it really matter, but it’s not a good look. White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany revealed the president’s banking information for the world to see at yesterday’s briefing. It was all part of an exercise to show that the president was donating his $100,000 quarterly check to the Department of Health And Human Services. On one hand that’s very generous, on the other, that’s like donating one tenth of a penny.

Biden Apologizes for Saying African Americans ‘Ain’t black’ if They Back Trump Reelection

(NBC News) – Joe Biden apologized Friday for having told a popular radio host and African American voters in an interview that “you ain’t black” if they back President Donald Trump’s reelection.

At the end of an 18-minute radio interview with The Breakfast Club’s Charlamagne tha God that aired Friday morning, Biden responded to the host’s desire for the candidate to answer more questions by saying,”You got more questions? I tell you what, if you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black.”

Hours later, Biden expressed regret for the remarks, calling them “really unfortunate” and saying he “shouldn’t have been such a wise guy.”

“I shouldn’t have been so cavalier in responding,” he said during a phone call with the U.S. Black Chamber of Commerce Friday afternoon. “No one should have to vote for any party, based on their race or religion or background,” Biden said.

Behind Trump’s demand to Reopen Churches: Slipping Poll Numbers and Alarm Inside his Campaign

(Politico) – A sudden shift in support for Donald Trump among religious conservatives is triggering alarm bells inside his reelection campaign, where top aides have long banked on expanding the president’s evangelical base as a key part of their strategy for victory this November.

The anxiety over Trump’s standing with the Christian right surfaced after a pair of surveys by reputable outfits earlier this month found waning confidence in the administration’s coronavirus response among key religious groups, with a staggering decline in the president’s favorability among white evangelicals and white Catholics. Both are crucial constituencies that supported Trump by wide margins in 2016 and could sink his reelection prospects if their turnout shrinks this fall.

White House Press Secretary Exposes Trump’s Private Banking Info at Press Conference

(NY Times) – The $100,000 check was made out to a government agency. This time his account and routing numbers were clearly visible.

It’s a feel-good story that President Trump’s press secretaries have relished over the years: the quarterly announcement of which government agency Mr. Trump has selected to be the lucky recipient of his salary, an easy way to show the president sticking to his 2016 campaign pledge to forgo his $400,000 salary and donate it.

In the past, the $100,000 check from Mr. Trump has been made out to the Small Business Administration initiative to help veteran entrepreneurs, to the Office of the Surgeon General to fight the opioid epidemic, and to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, among other places.

But on Friday, Kayleigh McEnany, the White House press secretary, did not just reveal that the president was sending his salary to the Department of Health and Human Services to help “support the efforts being undertaken to confront, contain and combat the coronavirus.”

She also displayed the president’s private bank account and routing numbers.

The $100,000 check she held up like a prop appeared to be a real check from Capital One, complete with the relevant details. An administration official said mock checks were never used in the briefing.
