January 1, Arizona Sheriff Blocks FBI in Guthrie Case

Wyatt’s Take
- Local Arizona sheriff refuses FBI access to key evidence.
- Outsourcing forensic analysis delays answers for the Guthrie family.
- Political ties and close election highlight controversy.
Democratic Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos is stopping the FBI from examining evidence in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie. Guthrie, mother of TV host Savannah Guthrie, has been missing since January 31.
The sheriff believes Nancy Guthrie was taken against her will. But rather than send a glove and DNA evidence to the FBI’s lab, he is having a private lab in Florida handle testing instead.
This hold-up, according to law enforcement sources, could slow down the case and worsen the Guthrie family’s pain. One source said,
“It’s clear the fastest path to answers is leveraging federal resources and technology. Anything less only prolongs the Guthrie family’s grief and the community’s wait for justice.”
Nanos, who calls Pima County home, barely kept his job in 2024 by just 481 votes. That same election, Vice President Kamala Harris won this heavily Democratic county by 15 points.
Savannah Guthrie shared her family’s hope online, saying,
“We believe that somehow, some way, she is feeling these prayers and that God is lifting her even in this moment and in this darkest place. We believe our mom is still out there.”
She added,
“Law enforcement is working tirelessly around the clock, trying to bring her home, trying to find her. She was taken, and we don’t know where, and we need your help.”
As days pass, the family and community continue to pray for answers. The delay in sharing evidence raises questions about local leadership and priorities.
Stay informed and stand up for transparent law enforcement in your community.
Wyatt Matters
In small towns and big cities alike, families depend on law enforcement to work together. When leaders put politics or pride before answers, it hurts real people hoping for loved ones to come home. We need accountability and common sense—values that matter in every heartland home.

That Sheriff doesn’t want FBI there because he botched it from the beginning!! If I Was Savannah and her family I wouldn’t want him touching anything. He acted like he didn’t know what he was doing from the beginning!! He couldn’t even talk intelligently from the beginning!! REMOVE THE SHERIFF!!

If the victim isn’t released within 24 hours, federal law presumes interstate transport, allowing the FBI to step in.

A little man with bias and a badge, leading the way with incompetence. Savannah should sue him when this goes sideways, as it seems to have already gone.
