An Arizona father threatened to zip-tie his son’s elementary school principal and place her under citizen’s arrest over COVID-19 protocols.

Vail Unified School District officials requested that a student at Mesquite Elementary School be quarantined after reportedly coming in close contact with someone who had tested positive for COVID-19.

Officials said the man, who was not named, arrived at the school with his child and two other men to protest the decision. The other two men were later identified as another community member and a local business owner, who live-streamed the confrontation over his business’ Instagram account.

According to Mesquite Elementary officials, Principal Diane Vargo listened to the group’s concerns and asked them to leave the school grounds. They refused, but the principal left her office without incident.

By the time local police arrived on the scene, the group had left.

VUSD has not decided if it will press charges against the men.
