January 1, Alert: ‘City Killer’ Asteroid Approaching Earth
A “potentially hazardous” asteroid, known as 2008 OS7, is set to make an extremely close approach to Earth on Friday, February 2nd. This football-stadium-sized space rock, measuring roughly 890 feet across, will reach its closest point to our home planet in over a century, according to NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL).
The closest approach of 2008 OS7 is estimated to be around 1.77 million miles. While this may sound like a considerable distance, it is relatively close in the context of space. The graphic on JPL’s website even appears to show the rock almost colliding with Earth, but thankfully, that is not expected to happen.
Once 2008 OS7 has passed by Earth, we won’t see it again for another few hundred years. The Virtual Telescope Project has set up a livestream for those interested in witnessing this rare event.
Asteroids of this size are sometimes referred to as “city killers” due to the potential destruction they could cause if they were to enter our atmosphere. Most “city killer”-sized asteroids go undetected by NASA, as reported by Forbes. In February 2023, a massive asteroid heading directly for Earth’s orbit went completely undetected by international space agencies but was luckily spotted by an amateur astronomer in Crimea.
These blind spots in Earth’s planetary threat defense system are significant. There is a growing body of evidence suggesting that our last major climate catastrophe and mass extinction event, known as the end of the Younger Dryas, was likely caused by an asteroid or a series of them either crashing into Earth or bursting within our atmosphere. This would have vaporized everything in its path, including the ice sheets that clung to North America.
NASA has managed to alter the orbit of at least one small space rock. However, the object acted so mysteriously after its path was altered that an investigation was launched by NASA to determine the cause.

The “city killer” asteroid approaching Earth serves as a stark reminder of the threats we face from outer space. It’s time to prioritize our national defense against these celestial dangers.
While NASA has made strides in altering the orbit of a small space rock, we must demand that our government invest more in planetary threat defense systems.
The potential devastation caused by these “city killers” cannot be ignored. As the last major climate catastrophe illustrates, we must be prepared for the worst.
The mainstream media may downplay these threats, but it’s essential for our survival that we take them seriously. Let’s not wait until it’s too late.

In Revelation 8, a great star called Wormwood is predicted to fall onto the Earth and destroy 1/3 of the water. And then in Revelation 16 it is prophesied that hail weighing 100 pounds will be falling from the skies! Of course, no one knows the timing of these events, but I wouldn’t want to be under the effects of these situations. They are predicted to fall on those who have not trusted in Jesus Christ’s Salvation.
