January 1, 80 Looters Ransack a Luxury Department Store [Video]
Approximately 80 people ransacked a Nordstrom store in the San Francisco area, which authorities described as an “organized theft.”
The Walnut Creek Police Department said it had arrested three people in connection with the incident at the luxury department store.
“The remaining participants in this criminal mob fled from the area in cars at high speeds,” officials said.
NBC Bay Area reporter Jodi Hernandez posted videos on Twitter, showing cars blocking the street outside the store as people fled and the police making arrests at gunpoint.
“The safety of our employees and customers is our top priority, and we’re doing everything we can to support them through this situation,” Nordstrom’s senior manager of corporate communications, Grace Stearns, said in a statement.
Stearns said five employees were treated for minor injuries, but no one sustained serious injuries. The suspects assaulted two workers and pepper-sprayed another, police said.
Authorities are now reviewing surveillance footage to identify additional suspects.
