The House select committee investigating Jan. 6 has wrapped up its first televised prime-time hearing. Here are five of the most noteworthy moments from the nearly two-hour broadcast.
Liz Cheney’s remarks
Only two of the panel’s nine members spoke during the first hearing, but multiple outlets noted Rep. Liz Cheney’s (R-WY) damning remarks in particular.
“In our country, we don’t swear an oath to an individual or a political party,” Cheney said. “We take our oath to defend the United States Constitution. And that oath must mean something. Tonight, I say this to my Republican colleagues who are defending the indefensible: There will come a day when Donald Trump is gone, but your dishonor will remain.”
Capitol Police officer describes “slipping in people’s blood”
U.S. Capitol Police officer Caroline Edwards described her experience defending the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, in graphic detail.
Edwards said she was “slipping in people’s blood” during the “carnage” and “chaos” that day.
Remarks from Ivanka Trump, William Barr
The panel showed clips from the videotaped testimonies of former Attorney General William Barr and Ivanka Trump, the former president’s daughter.
Barr said there was “absolutely zero basis for the allegations” that the 2020 presidential election was stolen and that Trump’s claims were “complete nonsense.”
Ivanka Trump said she accepted that her father had lost the election.
“I respect Attorney General Barr, so I accepted what he was saying,” she said, referring to Barr’s assertion about the election results.
Panel claims “substantial evidence” shows that Trump galvanized Proud Boys
Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-MS) said the committee “obtained substantial evidence showing that the president’s Dec. 19 tweet, calling his followers to D.C. on Jan. 6, energized individuals from the Proud Boys and other extremist groups.”
Harrowing new footage of the Capitol riot
The first half of the hearing ended with a nearly 10-minute compilation of video footage from Jan. 6, 2021.
“The chaos and pain of the scenes were undeniable,” The Hill reported.

She is not in charge of the National Guard or military. The Commander-in-chief (trump) was. Ask yourself: did she know what was going while hiding in the secure location? Who did know? (again trump)
Pelosi was informed that Trump had offered the National Guard through the Capitol Police, 2 different days and she refused, along with Mayor Bowser. Why? Because this is the outcome they wanted. Open your eyes and quit believing their lies. Why would Trump offer the National Guard if he was planning a riot? He wouldn’t! Pelosi and the fbi are involved with this up to their ears. The Democrats and Cheney hate Trump because he got elected and broke the chain of their plans to rule the country and destroy it., as they are trying to do right now.
Every one of these Dems/Rinos need a really good wake-up call, or perhaps euthanized to prevent the spread of their disease.

Officer Edwards described being covered in blood and slipping in pools blood from her fellow officers. The video playing behind behind her did not sow any blood anywhere. But the Committee and the MSM do not want us to trust our lying eyes. The whole thing is theater, but Dems know their faithful and the MSM will stay with them.
Think about the 2016 DOJ handling of Hillary’s emails and home-brew server. Bill Clinton and AG Lynch knew their tarmac meeting would get out. AG Lynch then took the unprecedented action of stepping aside and rendering the entire DOJ useless. If the top prosecutor is compromised, the Deputy steps. Hmm. Did Deputy AG Rosenstein suddenly cease to exist?
Instead, Lynch handed off the “Hillary matter” to FBI Director Comey, which is the equivalent of a compromised city prosecutor handing off to a police chief, who does not have legal authority to prosecute.
Comey changed the wording of the law to let Hillary walk. The hand off, and his (no authority) action, created a legal cloud designed to interfere with all future legal actions, and that was the goal.
One has nothing to do with the other….
Trump has a mental disorder, called narcissism that LOOKS like egotism on steroids, but is actually a different disease. This should have been detected when he was running for office & it should have eliminated him.
He was using the presidency as a stepping stone to get what he really wanted, which was to be Dictator of the Free World. (Of course, then it wouldn’t be free). Look at the politicians around the world he admires—all dictators. He admires their Positions. He wants to be one of them. He wants to go further & be their boss.
Trump saying Putin was smart and strong did NOT mean that he agreed with him. stop your half truths .

And what about the cost of obama and his 14 million dollar shack. The president gets $400,000.00 a year X 8 = $3,200,000. For Obama. Trump gave his four year salary away ever year of his presidency.

Everything costs something. I do not begrudge anyone, not even my opponents, the right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Every president has security details that cost money, it’s part of the package! The question is are we getting a good return on our collective investment in this current administration?, and the answer is a resounding NO

We, as taxpayers, are paying for the protection of Carter and his family, George W and his family, Trump and his family and, while he is in office, Biden and his family, even those that are breaking the law! When I heard there was a filmmaker embedded in the protest to film a documentary on the protest, my first question was how did they even know in time to hire him for that protest. The most ironic part of the first hearing was the demorats emphasis on Mark Meadows saying there “was no there there” regarding election fraud. The irony is that there is “no there there” of a seditious insurrection or orders by Trump to storm the Capitol.
January 6th hearing, total kangaroo court. Two Republicans appointed by Pelosi nothing more than democrat stooges. Total bullshit. Pelosi was the cause of this fiasco. Trump offered National Guard, Pelosi rejected it.
Disrespectful and unbelievable. There was no reason for them to breakthrough the police lines nor to enter the building without consent. Where has reason gone ? Mob violence was not necessary nor productive. Who bears the burden of the cost to repair the damages, injuries to police, cost of all the investigations and the time now for the hearings ??? WE the American Taxpayer !!
I for one resent that WE the Taxpayer must bear the cost of this stupidity. What has happened to obeying the laws, necessary restrictions and the orders of Police ??? In my opinion, the whole thing was set up by Pelosi and the Democrats! First, they refused the extra police help; then they infiltrated the crowd with their instigators; didn’t know they had a cameraman ready to shoot scenes of their liking; and last, they kill an unarmed protestor and he gets NO investigation or punishment!!! And all this is Trump’s fault? They should ALL be IMPEACHED ASAP!!!
