January 1, City’s Anti-Drag Ordinance Faces ACLU Backlash

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Tennessee is pushing back against a Tennessee city’s bid to curtail drag performances on public property.

In a federal lawsuit filed Friday, the ACLU has risen in defense of the LGBTQ+ community against what they deem a growing political effort to curtail its rights in Tennessee.

Murfreesboro, situated roughly 34 miles south of Nashville, has been the recent site of controversy surrounding its Pride events.

Hosted annually since 2016 by the Tennessee Equality Project (TEP), a nonprofit advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, the 2022 Pride event became a point of contention.

Following complaints from conservative activists alleging the “illegal sexualization of kids” during drag performances, the city swiftly took a stance.

Despite TEP’s assertions that all performers were fully clothed, the city forewarned of future permit denials and subsequently refined its “community decency standards.”

The ACLU argues that this ordinance infringes upon the First Amendment by stifling free speech rights.

Additionally, they believe the ordinance violates the 14th Amendment by discriminating against the LGBTQ+ community.

The backdrop to this lawsuit is an ongoing statewide battle over LGBTQ+ rights. As recently as August, the ACLU brought forth a similar lawsuit in eastern Tennessee’s Blount County.

There, the district attorney had threatened to enforce a new state law aiming to restrict drag shows.

However, a federal judge ruled against this enforcement within two days.

Another federal judge in Memphis, later during the summer, deemed Tennessee’s anti-drag show law both “unconstitutionally vague” and “overbroad.”

This judge also pointed out the law’s potential to “encourage discriminatory enforcement.”

Initially enacted in March by Tennessee’s GOP-controlled Legislature and Republican Gov. Bill Lee, this law emerged as supporters argued for limitations on public drag performances, especially where children might be present.

The wave is not limited to Tennessee. Several cities and counties across the U.S. are instituting their own restrictions on drag performances.

West Virginia has witnessed several local governments adopt such restrictions, while Bellefontaine, Ohio, residents will soon vote on a public drag show ban this November 7th.

The communist ACLU has always stood up for corrupt agendas. ACLU protected NAMBLA. ACLU protects all manor of pornography. ACLU protects DEI for the perverted agenda of LGBT activists. DEI claims to fight for INCLUSIVENESS, but the toxic transgender massive communist WAR is on all 166 million American women. It’s bad enough that the transgenders EXCLUDE women from winning awards, trophies and scholarships in female sports, they also EXCLUDE women’s ESTABLISHED rights to security, safety, privacy and modesty in all women’s biologically designated female facilities including bathrooms, locker rooms, changing rooms, showers, bedrooms for school away events, abused women’s shelters and women’s prisons. ACLU is promoting this WAR on all women.

Their rights are not curtailed. They can perform in private, just not in public. It’s like yelling “Fire!” in a crowded theater, versus your own private home.

Whether you agree or not, this is a perfect scenario where “laws”, or in reality policies, are only made to take people’s freedoms away.

You are correct. This country has lost it’s morality. Between the indoctrination of our kids in corrupt schools, social media, violent video games and movies, immoral Hollywood actors. Where does it all end?

Since when do perverts have more rights than moral citizens. Radical leftist LIE-berals are always crying “It offends me.” Use that against them.
