Kathie Lee Gifford, renowned former co-host of the “Today” show, recently found herself in a precarious situation as a fall landed her back in the hospital for more than a week. As reported by People, Gifford, 70, had been in the process of recovering from hip replacement surgery when she took a tumble, having hurried to greet a friend at the door.

Gifford explained her vulnerability to the fall, stating, “It didn’t take much, because I was weak in that spot. The next thing you know, I am back in the hospital with a fractured pelvis, front and back. It’s more painful than the hip surgery. The pelvis is unbelievably painful.”

The unfortunate accident resulted in not one but two fractures to her pelvis. Following the incident, she had to undergo intensive hospital treatment and physical therapy to get back on track, People reported.

Gifford admits that the day before the accident, she had overexerted herself. She singlehandedly moved 300 books during signings in Nashville, which left her in a weakened state. “It’s my own fault,” she confessed.

Despite the physical toll, Gifford maintained a positive outlook throughout her ordeal, sharing that she found it a “humbling experience.” Opting to stay in the hospital for a week, she acknowledged it was the best course of action for her recovery.

The popular TV host remained candid about the toll age had taken on her body, remarking, “You think you know your body and the next thing you know, your body changes when you get older.” Despite the challenges, the spirited Gifford takes it all in stride.

With the summer season passing her by as she recovers, Gifford kept her chin up as she looked forward to the day she could take a dip in her salt pool on her farm, stating, “It’s summer for everybody but me. But it’s OK. I’m going to get out to my little farm one of these days and stick my feet in my salt pool.”

Finally, Gifford connected her ordeal with a spiritual takeaway, saying, ‘The Lord is telling me it’s time to slow down. I’ve been running my whole life. The Lord is telling me, ‘You’ve planted a gazillion roses. Try smelling them.'”

I’m 78 and scheduled for hip replacement surgery on august 27. The pain I’ve been enduring for over 2 months is unreal and my summer is going too. But from your story I will endeavor to take it easy after the surgery. I also run all the time – damn the body for getting older than I am!
