January 1, Ted Lasso Season 4 Proves Hollywood Still Chasing Woke Approval

Wyatt’s Take

  • Season 4 of Ted Lasso turned the show into a lecture on gender politics and white privilege instead of sports entertainment.
  • Even after centering the entire season on women’s soccer and feminist grievances, progressive critics still declared the show insufficient.
  • Viewers lost interest once the message overtook the story, proving Hollywood’s chase for woke validation is a losing bet.

Apple brought Ted Lasso back after three years and made women’s soccer the entire focus of Season 4. The show immediately opened with Ted joking about his “deeply ingrained white male privilege” while stealing food from his grocery store job.

The writers wasted no time letting viewers know the new season would prioritize progressive talking points over entertainment. My wife and I turned it off after the first episode.

“Probably due to my deeply ingrained white male privilege.”

The second episode doubled down on feminist messaging when Rebecca panicked over whether she had been supportive enough of women after hiring Ted to coach the new women’s team. She began reading feminist literature and gave an awkward press conference declaring “the future is female.”

Even the critics who received early episodes admitted the show bent over backward to prove its progressive credentials. TIME’s Judy Berman still complained that Ted came across as paternalistic and that Rebecca felt filtered through the male gaze.

“A different coach is going to have to inspire those locker rooms, because Ted Lasso just doesn’t belong.”

Variety and The Times of London issued similar complaints. They argued the show still gave too much attention to male characters and failed to center women enough despite building the whole season around a women’s team.

“Occasionally you could argue the show itself is sexist.”

The show’s creators took the new season straight to far-left activists Sarah Spain and Megan Rapinoe for promotion. They knew exactly whose approval they were seeking.

Apple reported strong numbers for the premiere episode, but the company has stayed quiet about later episodes. That silence suggests viewers checked out once the political messaging took over.

Hollywood keeps reshaping popular shows to please critics who are never satisfied. Ted Lasso proves that strategy backfires when the audience stops watching.

Wyatt Matters

Middle America tunes in for good stories and honest entertainment, not lectures about privilege and patriarchy. When shows forget who their real audience is, families turn the channel.
