January 1, Radical State Amendments Threaten Heartland Values in November

Wyatt’s Take
- Left-wing ballot measures aim to rewrite state constitutions and override voter will on life, taxes, and parental rights.
- Radical proposals are being pushed by big-money outsiders while local families bear the consequences.
- These measures reveal the same overreach voters rejected in previous elections and show why local control matters now more than ever.
Midterm voters aren’t just choosing members of Congress. State ballots across the country include constitutional amendments and policy questions that would reshape life, taxes, and parental authority in ways that go far beyond the usual campaign rhetoric.
One measure under consideration would enshrine expansive abortion rights in a state constitution, overriding existing limits and removing any legislative check. Critics warn the language is written so broadly it could block even basic safety standards for clinics.
🚨A RARE MOVE by a Virginia Bishop Ahead of Election Day "Catholic Bishop Michael Burbidge says he has never before asked every priest in his diocese to do what he requested this weekend: read a letter at Mass urging Catholics to oppose two Virginia constitutional amendments on abortion and marriage." "Across 70 parishes serving more than 430,000 Catholics in Northern Virginia, worshippers heard Burbidge warn against what he called ‘two dangerous ballot initiatives’—proposed constitutional amendments that Virginians will decide Nov. 3. Early voting begins Friday." "The effort follows a joint statement Burbidge issued with Richmond Bishop Barry Knestout in August. In his latest letter, Burbidge urged parishioners to pledge to vote at https://t.co/kJzKhv4RZd, cast ballots early beginning Friday, and encourage their family, friends, and colleagues to oppose the amendments." … MORE:⬇️ https://t.co/DdCxpfV172 Video: Statement of Bishop Burbidge Instructing Catholics to Vote ‘No’ on Virginia Ballot Questions 1 & 2

Another proposal targets property taxes with a new spending cap, but opponents claim the fine print creates loopholes that could raise taxes on working families while shielding government programs from cuts.
A third measure would allow non-citizens to vote in certain local elections, a move supporters frame as expanding participation and opponents call a direct threat to election integrity.
Parents’ rights groups are also watching a proposal that would limit school board authority over curriculum and give state officials more power to determine what children are taught about gender and biology.
One lawmaker opposing the abortion amendment stated plainly: “The proposed amendment is extreme.”
Supporters of the measures argue they protect individual liberties and modernize outdated rules. Yet many of the initiatives are funded by out-of-state donors with records of backing similar efforts in multiple states.
Critics point out that the same states considering these changes already allow voters to decide major issues at the ballot box, making the push to lock policies into constitutions unnecessary and potentially irreversible.
Wyatt Matters
Middle America families have built their communities on the principle that parents, not distant bureaucrats or activist judges, should guide the future. When constitutional amendments bypass those voices, the cost is paid at kitchen tables and school board meetings across the heartland.
