  • Mayor’s wife skips America’s 250th birthday celebrations to jet off to luxury Islamic retreat in Spain
  • New Yorkers furious as First Lady chooses foreign spiritual getaway over hometown civic duty
  • Yet another example of progressive leaders showing contempt for American patriotism and tradition

The wife of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has sparked a firestorm of controversy after reports surfaced that she abandoned America’s 250th anniversary celebrations to travel overseas. Rama Duwaji reportedly flew to Mallorca, Spain, for an Islamic spiritual wellness retreat while her fellow New Yorkers gathered to honor the nation’s founding.

The timing couldn’t be worse for the Mamdani administration. While hardworking Americans across the country paused to celebrate the semiquincentennial—a once-in-a-lifetime milestone—the city’s First Lady was thousands of miles away on a luxury Mediterranean island.

Local civic leaders and everyday New Yorkers expressed disappointment and anger at what many see as a slap in the face to American values. The mayor’s office has remained largely silent on the matter, refusing to address why Duwaji prioritized a foreign retreat over participating in hometown patriotic events.

Critics point out that the optics are terrible for a progressive administration already under fire for being out of touch with working-class concerns. While middle-class families struggle with inflation and rising crime, the mayor’s wife jets off to an exclusive wellness getaway overseas.

The decision to skip America 250 events has reignited debates about progressive leaders’ commitment to traditional American patriotism. Conservative voices argue this is yet another example of the left’s disdain for the symbols and celebrations that unite the country.

New York City residents deserve leadership that honors America’s heritage and participates in the civic life of the community—especially during historic national celebrations.

Wyatt Matters

When the nation celebrates its birthday, our leaders should be front and center—not jetting off to foreign luxury retreats. This isn’t about religion or personal choice. It’s about priorities. Main Street Americans show up for their communities, attend local parades, and honor the country that gave them opportunity. They expect the same from those in power. Skipping America’s 250th sends a clear message about where loyalties lie, and working families are taking note.

So, I’m curious. What did they expect? It seems that if you vote in someone who hates democracy, the country and everything it stands for why would you be surprised by them NOT wanting to celebrate our democracy, birthday, and freedom?! I don’t know what the people of NY were expecting. Seems to me they got what they voted for. The rest of the country had better wake up!!!

, NYC residents have screwed themselves yet again and there’s no one to blame but themselves. The voters seem to enjoy every now and then, electing a “novelty” mayor. Remember Dinkins in 1993, the first Black mayor ? (and we know how that worked out) And now Mamdani (the first Muslim mayor) and everyone knows how that’s working out.

Of course that can be on the national stage as well: Obama and Biden.

Need I say more than the old adage: “Be careful what you vote for – you just might get it.
