Republican strategists are privately panicking. Their 2024 victories came on the back of kitchen-table promises — cutting inflation, reducing gas prices, making life affordable again. But wars are expensive, distracting, and politically dangerous.

“This is the No. 1 issue that people are dealing with right now,” one Republican lawmaker admitted about cost-of-living concerns.
