Wyatt’s Take

  • Iran is using oil shipping lanes as a weapon against American interests.
  • Democrats’ weak foreign policy has emboldened Tehran to issue ultimatums.
  • Energy prices and national security hang in the balance for working families.

Iran announced Sunday that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the United States agrees to seven conditions pulled from a June interim deal.

Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf made clear that Tehran will not reopen the vital shipping lane on Washington’s schedule, even as some vessels continue to pass through.

“American officials had sent proposals through a back channel, but Iran will not accept any timetable dictated by Washington,” Qalibaf said.

The threat hits American drivers and businesses hardest because roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil moves through this narrow passage every day.

Energy analysts warn that a prolonged shutdown could send gas prices soaring just as families are struggling with inflation left over from the last administration.

President Trump had repeatedly warned that appeasement policies would invite this kind of aggression from Iran and other adversaries.

Republican lawmakers are now calling on the White House to restore maximum pressure sanctions and strengthen naval presence in the region before the situation spirals further.

“This is what happens when America projects weakness instead of strength,” one senior GOP senator stated.

Wyatt Matters

Middle America depends on stable energy prices and a strong national defense that puts American workers and families first, not foreign regimes holding the world hostage.

Is this old, old news? Or is it something new? “Energy analysts warn that a prolonged shutdown could send gas prices soaring just as families are struggling with inflation left over from the last administration.”
That statement makes it sound as if the strait is just now shut down. I’m confused.
