House Democrats are at each other’s throats after a socialist wave demolished the party establishment in New York’s Tuesday primary elections. Three far-left candidates backed by the Democratic Socialists of America knocked out sitting moderate Democrats — and now the party can’t agree on whether this is the future or a political dead end.

Squad member Rep. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts didn’t hide her enthusiasm for the radical wins. When asked what the progressive sweep means for Democrats, she fired back at those calling it an outlier.

“It’s sort of dismissed as a fluke or an outlier, but whenever more moderate Democrats win, people say that that’s a blueprint for Democrats to continue winning.”

“So people should take heed.”

But not everyone’s celebrating. Other Democrats sprinted in the opposite direction, eager to reject the socialist label and everything it represents.

Rep. Thomas Suozzi, a New York Democrat, drew a hard line in the sand when speaking to Fox News Digital.

“I’m a capitalist, not a socialist. And I believe in safety, not lawlessness. And I’m proud of America. I’m not ashamed of America.”

Rep. Gregory Meeks, also from New York, echoed the sentiment.

“Now for me, you know, I believe in capitalism, so I’m not a socialist. So I don’t know whether that’s an issue or not.”

The shockwave started when New York City’s socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani personally endorsed three candidates — Darializa Avila Chevalier, Brad Lander, and Claire Valdez. All three rode Mamdani’s radical agenda to blowout victories, steamrolling the Democratic establishment in their districts.

Some party members are already writing it off as a New York thing — unique to the far-left politics of the city, with no bearing on the rest of the country.

“I think what happens in New York City is sort of just what happens in New York City,” Rep. Joseph Morelle of New York said. “I don’t think it’s necessarily an indication of anything outside New York City. Their politics is somewhat unique.”

But progressives aren’t buying that narrative. Rep. Pramila Jayapal of Washington State celebrated the results as proof of a larger movement taking hold.

“Fabulous energy, momentum, giant repudiation of special interests, including the impact of others,” Jayapal said when asked about the election results.

“And real energy for us to continue to turn out young people and make sure that we’re getting everyone voting and committed to a government that actually works for working people.”

The split reveals a party at war with itself. On one side: radicals who think socialism is the future and the establishment is finished. On the other: moderates terrified the far-left will drag the entire party into electoral oblivion.

Suozzi pointed to economic anxiety as a key battleground — and warned that tearing down the system isn’t the answer Americans want.

“They’re saying ‘the whole system sucks, let’s tear it down.’ I don’t believe that’s the right answer. I believe that we, those of us that disagree with the DSA and those of us who disagree with MAGA, have to do a better job of saying, ‘Yes, you have reasons to have economic insecurity. We understand that.'”

“We have to do a better job of understanding, saying that we understand what people are going through and proposing solutions that will make their lives better.”

Pressley, however, urged Democrats to lean in — not pull back. She argued voters are hungry for fighters willing to wield power aggressively.

“What the American people want to see right now and going forward is that we know how to be the fighters in the room and that when we have the power, we’re not afraid to use it.”

When a party can’t even agree on capitalism versus socialism, you know it’s in trouble. Middle America doesn’t want radical experiments — they want leaders who believe in the system that made this country great, not tear it down from the inside. The Democrat civil war is just getting started, and working families are watching closely to see which side wins.
