Matthew Spalding testified Tuesday before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform’s Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency. His mission? Expose the National Museum of American History’s alleged efforts to rewrite our nation’s story.

According to Spalding’s testimony, the museum isn’t just displaying history anymore. It’s actively working to replace the traditional American narrative with something far different—something that doesn’t celebrate our founding principles or the exceptional nature of this republic.

Hillsdale College has long been a bastion of traditional American education, refusing federal funding to maintain its independence. The college teaches the classics, Western civilization, and America’s founding documents without the progressive filter that dominates most universities.

That makes Spalding’s testimony particularly credible. He knows what authentic American history looks like—and he’s sounding the alarm about what’s replacing it.

The House subcommittee hearing focused on government efficiency, but this issue goes far deeper than bureaucratic waste. This is about whether our federal institutions will preserve and celebrate American heritage or actively work to dismantle it.
