Wyatt’s Take

  • Tampa deputies responded to what they thought was a simple assault call — what they found was a man wielding a propane tank like a weapon of war
  • Surveillance footage captured the suspect turning an everyday BBQ tool into a makeshift flamethrower, engulfing a local restaurant in flames
  • This is what happens when law and order breaks down — dangerous criminals brazenly torch businesses in broad daylight while hardworking Americans watch their livelihoods burn

Hillsborough County deputies rolled up to a Tampa restaurant Wednesday morning expecting a routine disturbance call. What they got instead was something out of an action movie — and it was all caught on camera.

Authorities received the call around 8:45 a.m. for a reported assault or battery at a local eatery. When they arrived on scene, they found suspect Rubiel Macero Castillo had already done his damage.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Castillo turned a propane tank into a makeshift flamethrower and set the business ablaze. The surveillance footage shows flames shooting from the tank as the suspect directed fire at the building.

Deputies arrested Castillo and charged him with arson. The sheriff’s office posted about the incident on their official Facebook page, sharing details of the wild scene that unfolded in broad daylight.

The restaurant suffered extensive fire damage. No word yet on whether anyone was injured in the attack, but the brazen nature of the crime has left the Tampa community shaken.

This wasn’t some middle-of-the-night sneak attack. This happened in the middle of a Wednesday morning when regular folks are heading to work, dropping kids at school, trying to make an honest living.

The sheriff’s office hasn’t released information about what might have motivated the attack or whether Castillo had any prior connection to the business. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine what sparked this destructive rampage.

Wyatt Matters

When criminals feel bold enough to torch businesses in broad daylight with improvised weapons, something’s gone terribly wrong. Small business owners across America are already fighting crushing regulations, rising costs, and workforce shortages. The last thing they need is to worry about some maniac turning their restaurant into an inferno before lunch rush. This is why we need prosecutors who actually prosecute, judges who actually sentence, and communities that stand behind law enforcement instead of tying their hands. One man with a propane tank just destroyed someone’s American dream — and that should make every one of us furious.
