Piker previously stated on his platform that the United States deserved the 9/11 attacks—the deadliest terrorist assault in American history that killed nearly 3,000 innocent people.

Instead of condemning these outrageous statements or cutting ties, El-Sayed has doubled down, defending his decision to hold campaign rallies alongside Piker.
