January 1, BREAKING: Top States Revealed: Where Americans Find True Happiness
A recent study has revealed which states in America are the most fulfilling to live in.
Some predictable contenders emerged, along with a few surprises.
WalletHub, a Miami-based personal finance company, has released its 2024 list of the happiest states in the U.S.
The research examined all 50 states, focusing on three main areas: Emotional & physical well-being, work environment, and community and environment.
WalletHub also looked at 30 additional factors, including social well-being, sports-participation rate, life expectancy, current unemployment rate, ideal weather, and safety.
Using data from sources like the U.S. Census Bureau, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, WalletHub identified the “happiest” states in the nation.
Chip Lupo, an analyst for WalletHub, described the happiest states as being well-rounded.
“In addition to pursuing your passions, having a good work-life balance and maintaining an emotional support network, another key way to boost your happiness is living in the right place,” he said.
He noted, “The happiest states are those that provide above-average quality of life in a variety of areas, from strong state economies and high-quality healthcare to adequate amounts of leisure time and good weather.”
So, which states topped the list?
Hawaii clinched the number one spot as the happiest state in the U.S.
According to WalletHub, Hawaii’s residents report the highest levels of life satisfaction and have the nation’s lowest depression rate.
Hawaii also boasts excellent physical health among its residents and the longest life expectancy in the U.S.
The Aloha State enjoys one of the lowest unemployment rates at 2.8% and has the second-highest share of households with an annual income above $75,000.
Maryland took the second spot, with research showing that its residents have supportive relationships and a high level of love in their lives.
Additionally, Maryland locals are highly motivated to achieve their goals, ranking third in the U.S. for goal achievement.
New Jersey came in third thanks to its residents’ supportive relationships and relatively low anxiety about personal finances—the state ranks ninth-lowest in this regard.
Not all states fared well.
New Mexico, Tennessee, West Virginia, Arkansas, and Louisiana were at the bottom of WalletHub’s list.
