January 1, Biden changes stance on when ‘life begins’ amid Texas abortion kerfuffle

During a press conference, President Joe Biden addressed a recently enacted Texas law that restricts abortions past six weeks of pregnancy. His comments indicate an apparent about-face regarding the contentious topic of when “life begins.”

“I respect those who believe life begins in the moment of conception — I respect that,” he told reporters on Friday. “Don’t agree, but I respect that.”

His statement marks a stark change from previous comments on the topic.

“I’m prepared to accept that at the moment of conception, there’s human life and being, but I’m not prepared to say that to other God-fearing, non-God-fearing people that have a different view,” Biden said in 2015.

Biden made a similar remark in 2008: “I’m prepared as a matter of faith to accept that life begins at the moment of conception.”
